Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) sounds fancy… but it’s basically “How do I help more people do the thing I want on my website?”

That “thing” could be buying a T-shirt, signing up for a newsletter, or clicking that big green button you spent 2 hours designing.

Here’s the fun part: CRO isn’t about guessing what works. It’s about detective work. And that’s where Zipy is like your magnifying glass.

  • Funnel analysis → shows you where people are quietly slipping away.
  • Session replay → lets you watch what happened. (Did they get stuck? Did they rage-click 14 times?)

Once you see the roadblocks, you can fix them. And every fix is a tiny win that adds up to a big “Hey, more people are converting!” moment.

Prerequisites

Before you dive into using Zipy for CRO, make sure you have the following:

  • A Zipy account
  • Access to use funnels

Step 1: Create Funnels with Zipy

To start optimizing your conversion rate, you first need to create funnels in Zipy that reflect your users' journey.

  1. Log in to your Zipy account.
  2. Select from the dropdown if you want to see funnels for a single session/across all sessions, or by unique users/by total users.
  3. Set up your funnel by defining the steps your users typically take to complete a conversion, such as 'Visited Homepage', clicked Product', clicked add to Cart', 'visited Checkout', etc.
  4. Apply appropriate filters to narrow down the data to specific user segments or actions and click “Create Funnels”.

TIP: If you want to use funnels for tracking the drop-off percentage of users from your signup page, then add the first page visit URL as the signup page and the second as your dashboard to create funnels.

Step 2: Analyze Funnel Performance

Your funnels are ready? Awesome. Now let’s play “Where are people disappearing?”\

  1. Open up the Funnels section. (Yes, the one you set up earlier)
  2. Check the numbers - drop-off rates at each step, conversion rates, etc.
  3. Find the “uh-oh” step - the one where the most people bail.

NOTE: High drop-off rates at a particular step indicate a potential barrier that needs to be addressed.

Created funnel

In this funnel snapshot, almost everyone who landed on my signup page signed up. Only one person dropped off.

But then - strange twist - none of them reached the next page, which is the “Server-error” page.

That’s a strong clue: something broke, or people got stuck before they could even get there. Time to investigate!.

Step 3: Session Replay Insights

Session replays allow you to watch real user sessions and understand their journey.

  1. Below the funnel created, you will see all the associated sessions for that funnel.
  2. Observe how users navigate your site and where they encounter issues or hesitation in the session replay.

TIP: Note common patterns or behaviors that could be leading to drop-offs.

Troubleshooting Zipy CRO

1. No Funnels option visible in my Zipy account.

Funnels might be disabled for your account; you need to contact Zipy support so that they can enable it for you.

2. The funnel step is showing zero users, despite data indicating that users should be reaching this stage

Make sure you’ve selected the appropriate options - “Single Session” or “Across Sessions,” and “By Unique Users” or “By Total Users” - based on your requirements. Choosing the right settings here is essential for getting the most accurate and valuable insights.

3. Associated user sessions are not appearing below the created funnels.

Verify the step number you’re trying to view sessions for. If you’ve selected “Completed Step 3” and no users have completed Step 3, then no sessions will be displayed.

4. I want to apply a unique filter to each funnel step.

Click the filter icon next to the desired funnel step, and select the specific filter you want to apply for that step.

Best Practices

  • Be precise in selecting the session type (single session or across) and user type (unique user or total user) while creating funnels.
  • Encourage collaboration by sharing insights with team members.
  • Engage in continuous monitoring of funnels to adapt to changing user behaviors.
