Ever clicked through a zillion user sessions trying to find that one error?
Yeah, not fun.
Good news: Zipy has a magical feature called segmenting sessions. It lets you filter sessions by things like errors, devices, or users - and then save those filters as named “segments” so you don’t have to set them up again.
In this guide, I’ll show you:
How to apply filters to sessions
How to save them as segments (just for you, or for your team!)
and a few neat tricks to make this actually useful
Let’s go!
Prerequisites
Access to Zipy with the necessary permissions for segmenting and saving filters.
Basic understanding of the Error, Device, and User filters available in the platform.
Step-by-step
1) Open the Filter Dropdown
Navigate to any section of your Zipy account, e.g., session replay
Open the “Filter dropdown” located at the top of the session list. You will find it with the name “Filters”.
2) Apply Error Filters
When you click on the filter dropdown, you will see a dropdown to select the filter type. Pick the filter type as “Error Category” or “Error type” as per your requirement.
Then you need to select the value for the filter type. For example, “Error category -> Backend Errors” or “ErrorType -> Console Error”
Click on Add filter the get the filtered data as per the selected error filters.
Tip: Applying Error filters is most useful on the “Errors” page of your Zipy account, so that you get the desired list of all errors that you want. E.g., Frontend errors.
3) Apply Device Filters
When you click on the filter dropdown, you will see a dropdown to select the filter type. Pick the filter type as “OS” or “OS Version” as per your requirement.
Then you need to select the value for the filter type. For example, “OS -> Safari” or “OS Version -> 10.15”.
Click on Add filter the get the filtered data as per the selected device filters.
4) Apply User Filters
When you click on the filter dropdown, you will see a dropdown to select the filter type. Pick the filter type as “First Name” or “Email ID” as per your requirement.
Then you need to select the value for the filter type. For example, “First Name -> John” or “Email ID -> john@gmail.com”.
Click on Add filter the get the filtered data as per the selected User filters.
5) Save as a Segment
You can also save the filters that you apply repeatedly in daily usage.
Once desired filters are applied, click on the “Save Segment” button.
If you select the option “Only me”, then only you can access the saved segment.
But if you select the “Team” option, then your whole team can assess the saved segment.
Access the segments from “Saved Filters: dropdown.
6) Access and Manage Saved Segments
Access saved segments via the saved Filters dropdown in Zipy.
Easily manage, rename, or delete segments as needed by clicking on the edit icon once you select the segment to edit.
Sign up for Zipy and make weird bugs way less mysterious.
Team unable to view saved segment: Ensure that you have saved the segment with the “Team” option. If not, edit the segment and save it with the “Team” option.
No result found after applying the session: Re-verify the applied filters; they must not be conflicting with each other.
Best Practices
To broaden the filter results, instead of selecting the “is” operator, you can also select operators like “contains”, “is set”, “does not contain,” etc.
Use only necessary filters for clarity.
Verify Results: Check session lists to confirm they meet your expectations.

What is the difference between 'Save for myself' and 'Save for teams'?
“Save for myself” means the segment’s just for you (like a note you stick to your desk), but “Save for teams” makes it show up for everyone - so your teammates don’t have to rebuild the same thing from scratch.
Can I edit or delete a saved segment?
Yep! You can rename or delete any saved segment whenever you want - it’s totally manageable.
Can I mix different kinds of filters in one segment?
Totally! You can combine Error, Device, and User filters however you like - they all work together.
Who can see my 'Save for myself' segments?
Only you can see segments saved for yourself.
